Introduction
Ramalinga Vallalar was a great spiritual saint who dedicated his life to compassion, equality, and divine love. His ultimate realization is known as Arutperumjothi, the Infinite Grace Light.
What is Arutperumjothi?
Arutperumjothi refers to the supreme divine light — the embodiment of infinite grace and compassion. It represents God as a formless, all-pervading light. Vallalar beautifully expressed this as:
“Arutperumjothi… Thaniperum Karunai” (Infinite Grace Light… Supreme Compassion).
The Path He Followed
1. Jeevakarunyam (Compassion for All Life)
Vallalar emphasized unconditional love and kindness towards all living beings. Feeding the hungry and practicing non-violence were central to his teachings.
2. Suddha Sanmarga (The Pure Path)
He taught a spiritual path beyond caste, religion, and differences — a path based on unity, love, and truth.
3. Yoga and Meditation
Through deep meditation and inner discipline, he purified his mind and body and realized the divine light within.
4. Deathless State
Vallalar believed that humans can attain a higher state where the physical body transforms into a subtle light form, transcending death.
Final Realization
In his final stage, it is believed that Vallalar transformed his physical body into pure light and merged with the Arutperumjothi. This symbolizes the highest spiritual attainment.
Conclusion
Vallalar’s teachings convey a simple yet powerful message:
- Love is God
- Compassion is the path
- Light is the ultimate truth
